Frequently Asked Questions

Does my teenage child (17 years old) living at home need fingerprints too?

ODJFS requires background checks for all household members 18 and older. If your child is under 18, they are not required to be fingerprinted.

I already cleared a background check for another employer. Do I need to do it again?

Yes, if it has been more than 1 year or if the new employer requires their own BCI check. The background check belongs to the employer who requested it, not to you personally.

What crimes are automatic bars to working in childcare?

Any felony, any sex offense, crimes against children, drug trafficking within 10 years, domestic violence, and any conviction listed under ORC 5104.09(B) are absolute disqualifiers with no exceptions.
