FBI Criminal Background Check

FBI Fingerprinting Near Huron, OH

FBI fingerprinting searches the federal criminal database — covering arrests and convictions across all 50 states, federal courts, and international records accessible to the FBI. Unlike Ohio BCI which only covers Ohio records, the FBI National Crime Information Center (NCIC) gives a complete national picture. At our Huron-area office, we submit FBI fingerprints electronically through authorized channels and also roll traditional FD-258 ink cards for agencies that require them.

FBI Fingerprinting for Huron Residents

Huron residents needing federal criminal records checks beyond Ohio BCI rely on FBI fingerprinting through CJIS-approved channelers. We submit electronically for fast turnaround or roll FD-258 ink cards if your agency requires paper submission — whichever your situation needs.

Who Needs FBI Fingerprinting?

Anyone whose employer or agency requires "FBI fingerprinting" in addition to BCI

Professional license applicants where both state and federal checks are required

Federal employment and contractor applicants

Immigration applicants requiring FBI clearance

Adoption applicants filing I-800A with USCIS

Anyone applying for a gun purchase requiring federal check

Legal Requirements

FBI background checks are governed by 28 CFR Part 20 and the National Child Protection Act. Results are returned to the requesting agency (employer, licensing board, federal agency) — not directly to the applicant. FBI Identity History Summaries (personal rap sheets) can be requested separately by the individual. An FBI check covers: federal criminal records, records submitted to NCIC by all 50 states, military records, and international records (where data sharing agreements exist).

What to Expect

For electronic FBI submission: same process as BCI Live Scan, but submitted to FBI CJIS via our channeler. For FD-258 ink cards: we roll traditional ink prints that you mail to your agency or channeler. Results go to the requesting agency — not to you, unless you requested a personal Identity History Summary.

Turnaround

Electronic FBI: 7–21 business days. FBI via mail (FD-258): 15–30 days.

Cost

FBI electronic: $42 (includes $25 FBI fee + $17 service). FBI ink cards (2 FD-258): $50.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will I receive a copy of my FBI results?

Not automatically. Results go to the requesting agency. If you want your own copy (Identity History Summary), you must request it separately from the FBI CJIS Division using a different process.

How is FBI different from BCI?

Ohio BCI covers Ohio criminal records only. FBI covers all 50 states plus federal records. If you have lived in multiple states or have a federal offense, only the FBI check will capture it.
