Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities (DODD) providers must conduct criminal records checks under ORC 5123.081 for employees who have contact with individuals with developmental disabilities. Ohio BCI and the FBI require at least one current, unexpired, government-issued photo ID that shows your name, date of birth, and a clear photograph. The name on your ID must match the name on your application exactly. Expired IDs, photocopies, and digital photos of an ID are not accepted. If your legal name has changed, bring documentation (marriage certificate or court order) connecting the two names.

Independent providers typically need results routed to DODD or their county board of developmental disabilities using a specific ORI. Bring whatever ORI and instructions DODD or your county board provided, and we'll submit accordingly.
Are registry checks the same as fingerprinting?
No. Registry checks (sex offender, abuser, and nurse aide registries) are name-based database searches your employer runs separately. Fingerprinting is the BCI/FBI criminal history check. Both are required for most DODD and residential roles, but we only handle the fingerprint portion.

Can I get a copy of my own fingerprints or background-check results?
Fingerprint-based results go to the requesting agency rather than to you, unless your check used a "personal review" or self-request ORI. If you need your own copy of your FBI record for personal or international use, that is an FBI Identity History Summary. Let us know, and we will capture and submit your prints electronically and explain how to request the summary directly from the FBI.
What if my fingerprints get rejected?
Electronic Live Scan flags a low-quality print in real time, so we re-capture it during your visit. In the rare case Ohio BCI or the FBI still returns a submission, we re-capture your prints again at no additional service charge.
How long are my results valid?
That depends on the requirement. Many Ohio licensing boards and employers treat a background check as valid for a set window, often one year and sometimes longer, and ask for a fresh check after that or when you change employers. Your board or HR department sets the validity period. The fingerprints themselves do not expire, but the check tied to them does.
