What This Form Is
Form I-129F, Petition for Alien Fiancé(e), is used by a U.S. citizen to petition for their foreign-national fiancé(e) to come to the United States on a K-1 visa. Once approved and the fiancé(e) enters the U.S., the couple must marry within 90 days. After marriage, the foreign-national spouse can apply for adjustment of status to become a lawful permanent resident.
Who Can File
- U.S. citizens only (lawful permanent residents are not eligible)
- You and your fiancé(e) must both be legally free to marry
- You must have met in person within the last 2 years (with limited exceptions)
- You must intend to marry within 90 days of your fiancé(e)'s arrival in the U.S.
Required Documents
- Proof of U.S. citizenship (passport, birth certificate, or naturalization certificate)
- Proof that both parties are free to marry (divorce decrees, death certificates of former spouses)
- Evidence of meeting in person within the past 2 years (photos, travel records, boarding passes)
- Passport-style photographs of both petitioner and beneficiary
- Evidence of genuine relationship (communication records, photos together, statements)
