What This Form Is

Form N-600K, Application for Citizenship and Issuance of Certificate Under Section 322, is used by U.S. citizen parents to apply for a Certificate of Citizenship on behalf of their biological or adopted children who were born outside the United States and reside abroad. This form allows eligible children to obtain proof of U.S. citizenship without going through the naturalization process.

Who Can File

  • U.S. citizen parent (biological or adoptive) of a child born abroad
  • The child must be under 18 years of age
  • The child must reside outside the United States in the legal and physical custody of the U.S. citizen parent
  • The U.S. citizen parent must have been physically present in the U.S. for at least 5 years, 2 of which were after age 14
  • A U.S. citizen grandparent may also meet the physical presence requirement on the parent's behalf

Required Documents

  • Child's birth certificate (with certified translation if not in English)
  • Evidence of U.S. citizen parent's citizenship (passport, naturalization certificate, or birth certificate)
  • Marriage certificate of parents (if applicable)
  • Evidence of legal and physical custody of the child
  • Proof of parent's physical presence in the United States
  • Adoption decree (if the child was adopted)
  • Passport-style photographs of the child
